Oyo govt approves Ladoja’s nomination as new Olubadan, fixes coronation for September 26
*As Gov Makinde meets him at residence

The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, is set to be crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan Land, the capital of Oyo State, during a coronation ceremony scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025.
The DEFENDER gathered Wednesday that that this followed the approval of the former Oyo State governor’s nomination by the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde.
The approval was further confirmed by visit of a state delegation to Ladoja at his Ondo Street, Bodija residence where it met with him and the other members of the Olubadan-in-Council at earlier on Wednesday August 20, 2025.
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Oba Ladoja, Chief Adeola Oloko, reportedly confirmed the development, stating that, “Oba Ladoja will be enthroned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan Land on Friday, 26 September 2025.”
The ceremony will take place at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
Ladoja had convened a meeting with the kingmakers at his private residence on Ondo Street, Old Bodija, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The meeting, held behind closed doors and lasting nearly two hours, was the first since Oba Ladoja’s return following the passing of the immediate-past monarch, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
In the meantime, a source close to Ladoja had said on Wednesday that, “Earlier today, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde paid homage to His Royal Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate.
“The governor said the visit was also an opportunity to reflect on the forthcoming coronation preparations.
“Governor Makinde says he’s truly proud of the cherished Ibadan traditional institution and its unique succession system.
