Osun monarch congratulates Osolo, Isolo people over Owayoko festival

As the Osolo of Isolo Kingdom, in Akure South, Ondo State, Oba (Dr.) Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole, Osalade II, Akesoogun Orisa Obaluaye Mosu, celebrates the annual Owayoko, yam festival with his people today Subday September 15, 2024, his friend from far away Osun State, the Akire of Ikire Ile Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Azeez Olatunbosun, has sent a word congratulating him.

Isolo, a distinct autonomous community, was founded by Kibi, a ground son of Oduduwa, who migrated from Osu near Ile-Ife, in present day Osun State some centuries ago.

Kibi had moved across Ilesha to arrive at Aaye, where he established his son as king and then moved further until, after Irese, the oracle confirmed his destination and his local dialect ‘inso olo’ (bring down the grinding stole) formed the name Isolo that his station at Umeruku, an area now called Shagari Village Northern part, is called.

The Isolo land mass further extended across part of present Araroromi, Odo Ikoyi to the West and covering the parts boundaring Oke Ijebu, Ijomu to the East, up to what is presently called Isolo Junction boundaring with neighbouring Akure by the Oba Adeshida Road to the South, in the present day Akure South Local Government.

One of the major festivals of the serene community is yam festival that is Owayoko, a festival founded by founder of the kingdom, Kibi.

Celebrating the festival this year, the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Edward Adewole, his Osolo-in-Council and the entire people of Isolo kickstarted the Owoyoko with a special prayer on Wednesday September 11, 2024.

The celebration climaxed in the grand finale holding this Sunday September 15.

Akire of Ikire-Ile, a first class traditional ruler in Osun State, Oba Azeez Olatunbosun, joined other friends and well-wishers of Isolo Kingdom, in Ondo State as he congratulated the king and his entire people of the land on the celebration.

“Wishing the good people of Isolo a happy celebration!” Oba Olatunbosun said.
