Osoba, Akande convene meeting to save South West from failing to produce next President
In effort to save the South West from losing out of its bright opportunity to produce the next President of Nigeria due to polarisation of aspirants list that has emerged and still counting, former Governor of Ogun State, who is better positioned now as political leader of the region, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has convened a meeting to resolve the issues and come out with one candidate.
Done in collaboration with another former governor (Osun State), Chief Bisi Akande, who disclosed this to newsmen on Friday, the Osoba initiative aims to see a united South West that will work to make a Yoruba President possible come 2023.
Disclosing this in a comment while speaking to journalists at the end of a meeting of presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South West, Akande said it was agreed that the aspirants should shun divisiveness and go about their campaigns with maturity.
The meeting, which was held on Friday at the Lagos House in Marina, had Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, and some governors in the region in attendance.
Others were the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. The ministers of works and housing; trade and industry and investment, and interior amongst others also attended.
Some Nigerians, who spoke privately about the meeting, are of the views that the Yoruba political leaders were not really after going to press Osinbajo to step down for Tinubu but doing what they have done in order to be seen as doing something and for the race, said to have all the opportunity, not to be lost out of it.
