One of the two houses of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Sunday Igboho in Soka, Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, has been razed by fire.

The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 26, 2021 but details of the incidents were not immediately available.

However, a media report quoted one of Igboho’s aides, who said the house got burnt in the early hours of the day.

“Igboho has two houses in Soka. The old and the new one where he lives now. The old one got burnt overnight. We suspect foul play. It could be the work of people who don’t like what we are doing to liberate Yoruba from the oppression,” he said.

But a source in Ibadan told The DEFENDER that “to me, one of two things could have happened. One, the fire could have occurred as a result of electrical sparks or Igboho himself did it to himself in order to create an impression that Fulani herdsmen have revenged.

“What is happening in South West is strictly politics and those responsible will, as usual, be humbled soon. Only that I will advise President Buhari to please shelf his ‘converted democrat’ personal principle a little because these elements cannot be handled with gentility so they don’t make simple issue complex for the government and Nigeria,” he said.

Igboho has been in the news since he issued a seven-day ultimatum to herders in Ibarapa local government area of Oyo state.

He had blamed the herders for fuelling insecurity in the state.

Olugbenga Fadeyi, spokesman of the Oyo state police command, reportedly could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.

Another media report said that Igboho recently came to the limelight when he issued a quit notice to Fulani herdsmen in the Ibarapa area of the state, accusing them of being behind a spate of kidnappings, rapes and murders.

He has vowed to take the campaign, which has stoked tension across the country, to other parts of Yoruba land.
