“How they make us as Yoruba people a laughing stock in the eyes of civilised world by their false claims is the concern. How do you claim that the world was created from Yoruba Land and so that every Yoruba person must worship idol and you think anybody in the world will ever take you seriously?”

For his continued resilience and firmness on his chosen oath of monotheism of God as a very vital traditional ruler in Yoruba Land, the Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom, Oba Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi, has been in the centre of unending social media noises aimed at bringing him down.

Oluwo of Iwo Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi arrives at Olivet event venue of coronation ceremony of 46th Alaafin of Oyo on Saturday April 5, 2025.

However, he says than producing negative out out the social media attacks and noises have made him the most popular traditional ruler in the Ngbati tribe of Nigeria.

In a post on his verified Facebook page titled “The Social Media Noises Are Testimonies Of An Answered Prayers”, the Iwo monarch said “I’m the most talk about Oba because I stand on the path of truth and honour. Many hate what I stand for. Truth is a bitter pill.”

The DEFENDER had Monday afternoon stumbled over two videos first of which tends to ridicle Oluwo and other advocates of Godliness against idolatry including the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) wherein they said “Sultan of Sokoto attending the Alaafin of Oyo coronation that is an idol personality shows they are left alone”.

The other video captures an attempt to create a disgraceful scene of Oluwo being denied access to the VIP side of the Alaafin coronation event on Saturday April 5, 2025 and that, as a result, he got angry and left.

The DEFENDER’s fact-check, however, proved their impressions by the two videos wrong as it found out that not only the Oluwo was duly invited with 10 VVIP Invitation Cards but also that he was fully on ground and acknowledged by masters of ceremony almost for as the event lasted.

By our fact-check, it was said that, “If the Oluwo hates or is against Yoruba race and its tradition, he would not be present at the Alaafin coronation event let alone that he even became the face of attraction and much honour at the event as many notable guests thronged his side of the same hightable used by Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Hakeem Abimbola Owoade I, Governor Seyi Makinde and Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, among others to greet and pay him their respects.”

Asked to comment on the videos, Media Aide to the Oluwo, Ibrahim Ali, said, “It’s not true, they should be ignored please.

“Oluwo was given 10 VVIP invitation. He brought 8 kings with him and P A and myself used the other two.”

On the aspect of Sultan attending, our further investigation revealed that, “Anyone thinking or publicly saying that Sultan attending an Alaafin coronation is a slight on Oluwo’s monotheistic mission and MURIC’s Islamic rights activism is a bad sign of education extinction from Yoruba race that must be addressed.

“If Sultan, who is Chairman of all traditional rulers in Nigeria co-chaired by Ooni of Ife and has led the national peace, unity and development of the country, attended Alaafin coronation and some people wasted energy and resources to produce videos mainly to misinform and to impress that he attended occultic event to spite the same Islamic community he leads and purveyors of these wrong and evil laden impressions are those who claim to be promoting Yoruba ideals, then, we the Yoruba people of Nigeria need to crosscheck and review our claim to the rating that we carry around as the most educated and most brilliant tribe in the country. We Yoruba youths and elders must rise beyond this.”

It was not clear whether the same videos being fact-checked by The DEFENDER formed part of his reaction on Monday April 7, the Oluwo himself took to his verified social media page of Facebook where he thanked all that say ill-words about him and requested for more of their generation to do more of the hate speeches about him as doing so makes him more a popular Oba.

According to the Oluwo, “Social media noise is a strength. I’ve prayed that the world should not know peace until they talk about Iwo and Oluwo Adewale Akanbi Telu1.

“The noises in the media are testimonies of answered prayers. I thank you all for the unpaid popularity. I commend the haters for buying data at expensive amount to promote me. I need more of you to be known worldwide. You shall never know peace until you talk about me.”

Continuing, he spoke partly in Yoruba and English saying “Aye yin konida teba soro nipa mi lojumo kan… eni lowo lowo teba soro mi lojumo kan, media page yin koniri Ero teba paro momi tabi so otito nipa mi!! (Meaning It will never be better for you if you don’t talk ills about me in one day…you will lack money if you don’t talk about me in one day, your media page will have no followers if you don’t lie against me or tell truth about me).

“It is a must to talk about me and that’s why I’m the rave of the moment either you say good things or bad things im still….Oluwo of Iwoland Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi Telu1, Arole Olodumare 1, Alase Lori Orisa 1,” the Oluwo confidently said.

Our investigation has further revealed that while the hates against the Oluwo of Iwo continues among even some fellow traditional rulers, conscioness about the need to accept and treat God as truly the only king of kings has grown among Christians and Muslim Yoruba Obas, although some Christianity and Islam professing monarchs in the region still worship or support occultism.

However, “under the Oluwo, whose course as Arole Eledumare  has continued to win for him the love of many Churches and Mosques leaders and goers in Iwo and environs, Yoruba Muslim Obas have increased in number from 13 to 25 and still counting.

“It is very disappointing that some people would ever think it can be possible to proclaim a region like Yoruba Land a no-God race and expect to be cooperated with with. They are even more ridiculous to publicly proclaim that Muslims who practice Islam in Yoruba Land betray the Isedale (tradition) of their tribe by allegedly worshipping the religion of Hausa-Fulani of Northern Nigeria. Does it mean Muslims of America, England, India, Russia, etc, who practice Islam are also practicing Fulani religion?

“How they make us as Yoruba people a laughing stock in the eyes of civilised world by their false claims is the concern. How do you claim that the world was created from Yoruba Land and so that every Yoruba person must worship idol and you think anybody in the world will ever take you seriously? Dey your dey and we dey our dey, do not stop me for worshipping my God and I will not disturb you for being the unGodly person you choose to be. If you go out of your way to attack me because of my religion, then you are transgressor that must be fought to the root. No law stops me from such self-defence.

“How do you make effort to block Muslims from accepting Allah as their Lord, embracing Sharia as their guiding principle and  worshiping of the God as their one and only purpose of creation and you think you will ever have peace? Which law of any country will support you on that,” an anonymous respondent said during the course of our investigation on Monday.
