The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has sued for peace among the people of Koko in the Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, noting that acrimony and bitterness would amount to nothing but will instead lead to waste of efforts towards attracting positive developments to the area.

The Olu made the appeal on Friday, 19 August 2022 during the third free medical outreach programme, the “Wuwu Ore Initiatives” which is a pet project organized by Her Highness, Olori Atuwatse III as part of the events marking the first edition of the coronation anniversary of His Majesty, the Olu of Warri, which began on Wednesday, 17 August 2022 and would be wrapped up on Sunday, 21 August 2022.

Applauding the medical outreach programme, the Delta South Senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (rtd) commended the royal family for the wisdom to come up with such initiatives which will surely rub off on the lives of the people, especially those in the rural communities that lack access to sustainable healthcare.

He stressed further that his manifesto aptly captures similar initiatives and so quite elated seeing this activity included as part of the 1st Coronation Anniversary programme.

The NNPP candidate who is tagged as the Commodore of Hope said Delta South should not lose hope as he assures them, by the grace of the Almighty God, that things are about to turn around for good as his representation will lure the needed change the people have been clamouring for which is their right but largely being deprived of.

The medical outreach which delivers free medical checks and treatments ranging from hematocrit (PCV) screening, full blood screening, malaria screening, blood glucose screening, urine analysis, retroviral screening, provision of mosquito nets etc. also includes the presentation of free birth certificates to 600 children in Koko.

According to Her Royal Majesty, “We decided to hold the third medical outreach to celebrate the first coronation anniversary of our King. It is to my knowledge that most of our children don’t have birth certificates. As part of the Wuwu Ore Initiatives we are giving birth certificates to 600 of our children and we intend doing that in other communities. This is the first step to ensuring the Itsekiri people have a future and a voice under our great king Ogiame Atuwatse III. We are here to promote the future of our children which is the future of Itsekiri ,” the Olori added.

Speaking after the presentation of birth certificates and gift items to children of Koko community, the Olu promised that more of such initiatives would follow that will uplift the Itsekiri people and with a ripple effect across the State and the nation at large while also inviting neighbours and other partners to key into the programme.

“I want you to know that there will be many more similar related health initiatives, even beyond heath, social initiatives as well, that are aimed at improving the wellbeing of all, even beyond Warri North… We welcome all our neighbours to come partner with us because it is really for the best interest for the Niger Delta, the entire Delta State and Nigeria, that our children enjoy the best that can be made available to them.

“I want you all to continue to keep the peace. I know there are grievances, many people feel hurt, disrespected, assaulted, insulted. I want to appeal, come to the table for peaceful discussions, let us rub minds and let us move forward. There is so much hope that is coming in the direction of Koko, and we cannot have disgruntled, bitter, angry people otherwise it would amount to nothing. And I do not want to see wasted efforts in this direction, I want to see progress,” the Olu added.
