The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old Abey Tunde, ‘m’, for armed robbery.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement he signed on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, on Friday.
The suspect, according to Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was arrested following an information received from a member of the public.
ASP Oyeyemi stated further that the informer had reported that while he was coming from Owode-Ijako he sighted two boys struggling to hijack a motorcycle from its rider and that the rider had been shot in the leg.
“Based on the report, the DPO Sango Ota Division, SP Akinsola Ogunwale, led the team of anti-robbery men to the scene where they met the victim who was later identified as Umani Ndidi in the pool of blood.
“The suspects were hotly chased and one of them was arrested,” he said.
Items recovered from the arrested suspect was one locally made pistol with two live cartridges.
The victim was said to have been rescued and rushed to General Hospital Ota for medical attention where he was currently responding to treatment, the police said.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspect be transferred to FSARS for discreet investigation while he had also directed that fleeing suspect must be hunted for and brought to book, the statement said.
