Ogun police arrest 3 suspected armed robbers
The men of Ogun State Police Command has arrested three members of armed robbery syndicate at Ogunmakin in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were arrested following their attack on one Isaiah Sowunmi during which they shot his son, Abiodun Sowunmi, on the thigh in a bid to dispossess them of their money.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi (ASP), in a statement on Sunday said, “Distress call was made to the police and the DPO, Owode Egba, CSP Sheu Alao led his men to the scene, combed the area thoroughly and subsequently arrested one Olumide Ifelowo ‘m’ 28 years, who was subsequently identified by the victim as the person, who fired the shot that injured him.
“On interrogation, Olumide confessed to have come along with one Jeje, who is now at large, from Shagamu on invitation by the duo of one Abiodun Bayegun and Fatai Sowunmi, who informed them that Isaiah Sowunmi is always in possession of large sum of money as a cocoa merchant, hence their invasion of the village with Isaiah as their main target. His confession led to the arrest of the said Abiodun Bayegun and Fatai Sowunmi,” the statement said, adding that one cut to size short gun loaded with one live cartridge was recovered from the arrested suspect.
The injured victim has been taken to hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to FSARS for discreet investigation and further directed that manhunt be carried out with a view to apprehending the fleeing members of the gang.
The CP also appealed to members of the public to always beware of people around them because most robbery incidence always have the backing of an insider.
