Oborevwori laments Ughelli Stadium vandalisation, hails Warri Stadium project advancement

Hon. Oborevwori spoke on Thursday January 22, 2026 during an unscheduled inspection tour of the Ughelli Stadium and the ongoing remodeling of the Warri city stadium by the Delta State government.

The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, has expressed concern and also condemned the rate of vandalization and encroachment at the Ughelli Stadium, even as he applauded the pace and quality of work done at the Warri City Stadium.

Hon. Oborevwori spoke on Thursday January 22, 2026 during an unscheduled inspection tour of the Ughelli Stadium and the ongoing remodeling of the Warri city stadium by the Delta State government.

The Sports Commission boss lamented what he described as a disturbing level of vandalization while sections of the stadium land had been unlawfully encroached

“What we have seen here is very disturbing. Public facilities meant for sports development have been vandalised, and there is clear evidence of encroachment on government land.”

He consequently directed a staff of the Commission, Mr. Omonigho Johnson, to urgently prepare a comprehensive report on the condition of the stadium and its facilities for immediate intervention.

“We need a detailed report without delay so that decisive steps can be taken to protect and restore this stadium.”

The inspection team later moved to the Warri City Stadium, where a more positive assessment was recorded.

While taking the Chairman and his entourage round the project site,representative of the Contracting firm PECULIAR Consult Engr. James Titus disclosed that construction activities were ongoing day and night to ensure the timely completion of the project.

“We are working round the clock to ensure that the stadium is completed at the scheduled time and in line with the required standards.”

Speaking with journalists after the tour, Hon. Oborevwori commended the contractors for the quality of work so far, expressing optimism that the project would be delivered as planned.

“I am impressed with what I have seen here in Warri. The quality of work gives me confidence that this stadium will be ready within the stipulated time and also meet the required standard.”

He reaffirmed his Excellency right Rt.Hon.Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to the development, maintenance and protection of sports infrastructure across the state, stressing that standard and functional facilities remain critical to talent development and the sustained growth of sports in Delta State.

Accompanying the Chairman on the inspection visit were top government officials, including Mr Oghale Ofremu member representating Delta South on the board of the Sports commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero, former Director-General of the Delta State Sports Commission, the Director-General of the Commission, Mrs. Emuobo Egalase, Mr Paul Onamomo Ojo, SSA to the Governor on Sports as well as Mr. Joe Eyimofe and Mr. Esosa Igbinoba, Special Assistants to the Executive Chairman, alongside Franca Okonmah DIPR, Marry Enarevba Dir. Organizing Dssc .
