“The report by the Special Investigator that indicted the former CBN Governor and others should be handed over to our Security Agencies for diligent prosecution of the accused persons. The idea to share the report (to) Media Houses when no serious prosecution is ongoing amounts to sensationalism.”

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been cautioned against the behind-the-door treatment being given to figures it has presented to Nigerians and the world as having allegedly stolen public funds.

If you have any case against them, take them to court and stop the media trials being done to proclaim them guilty outside of the constitutional court, the government has been told.

This warning was given by Publicity Secretary of the Rivers Bridge Initiative, Mr. Tonye Barcanista, via his X account on Tuesday.

According to him, “Nigerians want Mr. Godwin Emefiele, former Central Bank Governor, Sadiya Umar Farouq, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, and others that allegedly plundered our resources during the last administration to be prosecuted in the Court of law, not on the pages of Newspaper.

“The report by the Special Investigator that indicted the former CBN Governor and others should be handed over to our Security Agencies for diligent prosecution of the accused persons.

“The idea to share the report (to) Media Houses when no serious prosecution is ongoing amounts to sensationalism. Media Organisations are to report on the events of the Court trials of the accused as it is done in other societies, instead of assuming the role of the Court.

“We may recall that 95% of those that were subjected to media trials by the Buhari administration, including Ibrahim Dasuki either ended up on ‘bail’ or acquitted of the offences. In fact, it turned out that the accusers were even worse than those they accused of criminal offences – just like the case of ACP Abba Kyari.

“If the Bola Tinubu administration cannot prosecute Emefiele and others, they should save Nigerians media noise and focus on the job of fixing Nigeria,” Tonye Barcanista said.
