A Nigerian integrative medicine expert, Dr. Tor-Agbidye, has confirmed that it is not out of place the claim by Governor of Oyo State, South West Nigeria, Engr. Seyi Makinde, that he used habatus sauda, an Islamic medicine substance known in English word as black seed, and honey to treat himself after he recently tested positive of Covid-19 pandemic.

Founder/CEO, In-Country Medicine, Dr. Agbidye, said: “If you look at the component of black seed and honey that the Oyo State governor said he used that cured his Covid-19 case, you will discover that they are part of what are being used to treat the disease in other parts of the world.”

He spoke on an NTA network programme Thursday afternoon focusing on “Diseases: Prevention, Management, Reversal & Anti-Aging”, anchored by Muhammad Kudu Abubakar and Rabi, the Head of Health Desk.

Dr. Agbidye, speaking on the preventing and managing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, said Nigeria has passed the stage where triple T: “Tracking, Tracing and Treating” is used as response to the disease to community transmission stage, adding that the best way to handle the current stage is total lockdown which, he certified, the government just concluded.

He favoured the idea whereby Nigeria is advised not to wait for World Health Organisation (WHO)’s direction on drugs alone but to look inward since China, India, Spain and Brazil, according to the medical expert, treat their own cases with their own self-developed means which worked.

The integrative medicine expert was not comfortable with criticisms alternative and traditional medicine, adding that whereas traditional medicine’s only issue is lack of documentation, some kind of critical examinations can be carried out into what they do and through that give Nigeria a template of its own in the comity of nations as far as research and discovery of cures to diseases are concerned.

He gave seven important ways Nigerians can guard themselves against diseases of any kind and they listed them: “One, Type of food. Avoid refined oil, palm oil, omega oil (fish).  Two, Detoxify the body to avoid acidic.  Three, Exercise. Do the right type of exercise. Four, Use of supplement; Vitamins C, D, Zinc. Five, Spirituality.  Whatever you are doing know that there is somebody out there who is God and whose rules and regulations must be followed and obeyed by not going into excessive things that hurt or cause injuries to our health and life. Six, Stress management, things that cause stress must be avoided to the best of our ability.

“And seven way to guard against diseases is Sleep.  When I talk of sleep I am talking about adequate sleep because the word ‘adequate’ is a key word in matter of sleep. It is recommended that you sleep seven, eight hours.  The proper sleep is between the hours of 10pm to 6am in the morning.  God has said that he made the night for us to rest not the day.  And he has made the day for activity not to sleep. When you miss this time you are missing your melatonin cycle,” he said.
