Nigerian President, Tinubu, sacks security chiefs, appoints replacements as Gen Oluyede is upgraded

In the changes that occurred, the President upgraded Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede from the position of Chief of Army Staff to replace General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff
Few days after the news about whether or not there was a coup in Nigeria’s capital Abuja, President of the country, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Friday October 24, 2025, has made some changes in the hierarchy of his service chiefs.
This development is seen by some watchers of events as in effort by the president to strengthen national security architecture and keep the seat of government safer.
In the changes that occurred, the President upgraded Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede from the position of Chief of Army Staff to replace General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
The DEFENDER reports that Tinubu appointed Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff while Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke was made the new Chief of Air Staff and Rear Admiral I. Abbas the new Chief of the Naval Staff but Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retained his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence in world’s largest black nation.
In the meantime, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has expressed most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, and dedicated leadership.
The President charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
This global online newspaper reports that a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said all appointments took immediate effect.
