*As Buni says relative peace in state, North East creditable to Army, others

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, in Damaturu, Yobe State on Wednesday December 23, 2020, said the foremost Armed Forces unit was working hard to make the North East of the country entirely safe from the activities of terrorist Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISEAP) now restricted to the Lake Chad Basin region.

He assured the government and people of Yobe State that his Army was currently taking drastic steps to ensure that Damaturu-Maiduguri road is secured inorder to safeguard lives and properties of the people, our reporter on ground said.

The military top bras made this assurance while briefing Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House Damaturu, during which he stated that the Army, in partnership with other relevant stakeholders, will have strategic engagements in the next few weeks to further improve security in the zone particularly in identified flash points.

In his response, Governor Buni commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies over what he described as their concerted efforts and commitment in the fight against insurgency, banditry and other criminalities across the nation.

The governor assured the continuous support of the state government in the fight against all forms of insecurity across the state.

The Yobe’s Chief Security Officer did not end his remarks until after he had acknowledged and attributed the relative peace being enjoyed in the state and the region to the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
