NIGERIA: Sultan of Sokoto mourns death of Makkah Grand Mosque Muazzin, Ibrahim Al-Madani

The Sultan said the circumstances surrounding the late Muazzin’s final Adhan were a profound reminder of the transient nature of life and the honour of dedicating one’s life to the service of Allah and His Sacred House.
His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has expressed deep sadness over the death of Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, a Muazzin of the Grand Mosque, Masjid Al-Haram, in Makkah.
The Sultan, in a condolence message issued and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of his media team following the announcement of the death of the revered Muazzin, described Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani’s death as a painful loss to the Muslim Ummah, particularly those who had been blessed by his service in calling the Adhan at the Sacred House of Allah.
Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani died on Monday, September 21, 2026, after reportedly raising his final Adhan at Masjid Al-Haram on 10 Rabi Al-Thani 1448 AH.
The Sultan said the circumstances surrounding the late Muazzin’s final Adhan were a profound reminder of the transient nature of life and the honour of dedicating one’s life to the service of Allah and His Sacred House.
The Sultan noted with appreciation the late Muazzin’s long years of service to Islam, recalling that Al-Madani began serving as a Muazzin at the age of 15 at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah while continuing his education.
He was later formally appointed as a Muazzin at Masjid Al-Haram in 1439 AH, corresponding to 2017–2018, after years of service in Madinah.
His Eminence observed that the late Sheikh was raised in a religious family and was introduced to the Adhan from an early age, with his paternal grandfather, a memoriser of the Qur’an, reportedly playing an important role in his religious upbringing.
The Sultan said Al-Madani’s service at both the neighbourhood mosque in Madinah and, ultimately, at Masjid Al-Haram reflected a life devoted to the worship and service of Allah.
He prayed Allah, the Most Merciful, to forgive the deceased, accept his good deeds, reward him abundantly for his service in calling the Adhan at the Sacred House and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
The Sultan also prayed Allah to grant members of the late Muazzin’s family, colleagues, the custodians and servants of Masjid Al-Haram, and the entire Muslim Ummah the fortitude to bear the loss.
He urged Muslims to continue praying for the deceased and to draw lessons from a life spent in the service of Allah.
“May Allah SWT envelop Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani in His infinite mercy, illuminate his grave, raise his ranks among the righteous and grant him a place in Jannatul Firdaus.
“May Allah also reward him for every Adhan he raised, every prayer he called the faithful to, and every service he rendered at the Sacred House of Allah.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the entire Muslim Ummah, over this painful loss.
“May Allah SWT grant us all a righteous ending and make our final words upon this earth words of faith and submission to Him. Amiin.”
