Makkah Grand Mosque Muazzin, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani, dies after final Adhan

Al-Madani began serving as a muazzin at the age of 15 at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah. He shared the responsibility with three other young men while continuing his education.
Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, a muazzin at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Masjid Al-Haram, has died after reportedly delivering his final Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer.
His death was announced on Monday September 21, 2026 by Inside the Haramain in a post on X.
According to the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar, Al-Madani died after raising his final Adhan that is for Fajr prayer on Monday 21 September 2026 which is equivalent to 10 Rabi‘ al-Thani 1448 AH.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of the Muadhin of Masjid Al Haram, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani,” the post stated.
It added, “The final Adhan raised by Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani in Masjid Al Haram on 10 Rabi Al Thani 1448.”
Inside the Haramain also announced that the funeral prayer for the late muazzin was scheduled to be performed after the Asr prayer on Monday at Masjid Al-Haram, after which his remains would be buried at Al-Mu‘alla Cemetery in Makkah.
Al-Madani was formally appointed as a muazzin at Masjid Al-Haram in 1439 AH, corresponding to 2017–2018.
Born in Madinah in 1397 AH (1976), he was raised in a religious family and developed an early attachment to the Adhan.
His paternal grandfather, a memoriser of the Qur’an, reportedly played an important role in his religious upbringing.
Al-Madani began serving as a muazzin at the age of 15 at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah. He shared the responsibility with three other young men while continuing his education.
He later stepped away from the role for a period because of teaching commitments outside Madinah but returned to the position in 1428 AH (2007–2008).
He was subsequently invited to resume calling the Adhan at Masjid Al-Maddah, where he continued serving until his appointment to Masjid Al-Haram about a decade later.
Having spent his formative years in Madinah, Al-Madani was influenced by the Madinan style of the Adhan. He also became familiar with the distinctive Makkan style during visits to Makkah with his father.
During those visits, he reportedly met Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former muazzin of Masjid Al-Haram and a friend of his grandfather.
Following the announcement of his death, Inside the Haramain prayed for Allah’s mercy upon Al-Madani and commended his service at the Sacred House.
“We ask Allah to envelop him in His vast mercy, raise his rank among the rightly guided, and reward him with the best of rewards for his service in calling the Adhan at the Sacred House of Allah,” the post said.
