Nigeria announces 2-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, workers’ day

Federal Government of Nigeria, on Friday April 29, 2022, announced Monday, May 2 and Tuesday, May 3 as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr and Workers’ Day celebrations.
Sallah marking the end of Ramadan fasting of 1443 A.H. this year 2022 will be celebrated May 1, are more likely to have same day this year.
This will, however, depends on if the National Moonsighting Committee, a department of Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar-led Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), sights the new moon of Shawwal on Saturday April 30.
Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, while making the announcement of the dual festivals on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated the Muslims for the successful observation of fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan, while urging the Islamic faithful to imbibe the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice and good neighbourliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Aregbesola also congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration, urging them to raise the bar of their trade, in line with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s drive to rev up governance and make Nigerians derive maximum benefit from the nation.
The Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar-led NSCIA had, earlier on Friday, directed Muslims in the country to look out for the new moon of Shawwal, the 10th month of Islamic calendar, on Saturday.
