MURIC mourns death of Ilorin Chief Imam, condoles Emir, family

MURIC noted that Shaykh Bashir Solih’s influence went beyond Ilorin Emirate, as he was widely respected for his scholarship, moral guidance, and commitment to peaceful coexistence.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), at the national level through its Kwara State chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih, OON, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Ilorin Emirate and the Nigerian Muslim community.

In a statement issued on Tuesday January 20, 2026, signed by Taofeek Jaji, Chairman Kwara State Chapter, MURIC extended its condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CON, the immediate family of the late Chief Imam, and the entire people of Ilorin Emirate.
According to the organisation, the late Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih was a revered Islamic scholar, spiritual leader, and symbol of humility, moderation, and dedication to the propagation of Islam. MURIC noted that his influence went beyond Ilorin Emirate, as he was widely respected for his scholarship, moral guidance, and commitment to peaceful coexistence.
The group described the late Chief Imam as a bridge-builder and custodian of Islamic values whose teachings and lifestyle would continue to inspire present and future generations.
MURIC also acknowledged the announcement by the Emir of Ilorin regarding the Janazah prayer scheduled to hold at the Palace Square on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, noting that the arrangement reflected the high esteem in which the late Imam was held.
The organisation commended the late cleric’s legacy of religious tolerance, sound scholarship, and unwavering service to Allah and humanity.
On behalf of its leadership and members nationwide, MURIC prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased, asking that his shortcomings be forgiven, his good deeds accepted, and that he be granted Jannatul Firdaus. The group also prayed for comfort for the Emir of Ilorin, the bereaved family, and the entire Ilorin community.
