MURIC condoles DG DSS, Police IG over death of officers

*Advocates regular medical checkups for officers

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed its deep sympathy with the Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Mallam Lawal Musa Daura and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, over the unfortunate death of their Kano State Director and Rivers State Commissioner of Police, respectively.

The DSS lost its Kano State Director, Alhaji Abdullahi Chiranchi, on Sunday after a brief illness and as a result, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) commiserates with the DG, Lawal Daura, the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the entire DSS Kano formation on the sudden death of the office.

In a statement signed by Director of MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, copy of which was emailed to The DEFENDER on Tuesday, the Muslim rights group prayed that, “Allah forgive him and repose his (Abdullahi Chiranchi’s) soul in Al-Jannah Firdaus. May Allah in His Infinite Mercy also fill the vacuum left behind by his death and cushion the economic effect on the family.”

On the death of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Mobolaji Odesanya, who died on January 31 at the age of 56 in an Indian hospital, MURIC condoled the IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, the state government, family and friends of the late officer praying that, “Allah give the family and friends the strength to bear the loss.”

Prof. Akintola, according to the statement, however makes an advocacy in view of the circumstances leading to the death of the DSS director, Abdullahi Chiranchi in particular saying, “the Federal and State governments should put less stress on the heads of security agencies.”

The don said, “Governments should also provide adequate measures for frequent health checks and facilities for security officers who bear huge responsibilities. Provision should also be made for leave opportunities for top security officers at regular intervals.”
