Misrepresentation: Sen Dino Melaye’s recall records success across Kogi West’s seven LGAs

The ongoing recall of Sen Dino, representing Kogi West Senatorial district recorded a huge success at the weekend across the seven LGAs that made up of Kogi west. The DEFENDER gathered.

It would be recalled embattled Senator had tried to hing his plight on Governor Yahaya Bello spending over a billion of Naira to get his constituents recall him.

But sources within the Kogi West senatorial district said Melaye must be joking to think that anybody could have influenced them to perform their constitutional duty over a person they elected to represent them in the Senate only for him to get there and be representing interests alien to their primary reason for electing him in the first place.

Eligible registered voters came out as early as 8.30am on the said day in various polling units to register and sign the recall register.

Lokoja, the city capital and suburb recorded tremendous massive turnout despite Sen Dino last minute efforts to stop the exercise. Earlier, he was said to have reach out to various ward chairman pleading with them to give him a second chance, promising to “change a new leaf” but our sources said, the chairman refused his plea.

As at 5.30pm some polling units in Lokoja1&2, Kabba/Bunu, Yagba East/West has met the INEC requirements of 50% + 1 needed to recall a serving Senator.

According to a close aide of the Senator, he told reporters that at this stage, Sen Dino had no option than to go to the court to stop it.

But a constitutional lawyer, who spoke on the option of using the court as last resort, said that would be impossible as he said such move was strange to the law.

If the current recall process concludes, Dino Melaye will make record as first Nigerian Senator to be recalled.
