The political landscape of Ondo State took a historic turn on Thursday, October 9, 2025, as the two remaining opposition lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection, which took place on the floor of the House, marked the first time since the return to democracy that the Ondo Assembly became an all-APC chamber. The move has been described as a major boost for unity, stability, and effective governance in the state.
Reacting to the development, Engr. Mike Adeyanju commended the lawmakers for their decision to join what he described as the Progressive family, saying it was a reflection of peace and harmony within the legislative arm, as well as the result of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s exemplary leadership.
“This is a clear sign of unity and the quality of leadership constantly displayed by Governor Aiyedatiwa,” Adeyanju said. “The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji (Landmark), has also shown great maturity and a genuine spirit of cooperation to ensure continuous development in the state without hindrance.”
Adeyanju further described the mass alignment with APC as “unprecedented,” adding that it demonstrates the lawmakers’ collective commitment to advancing the growth and prosperity of the Sunshine State.
He reaffirmed that the Aiyedatiwa administration has sustained high standards of governance and remained committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
“With APC holding sway, Ondo State will continue to experience progress, peace, and purposeful governance,” he stated.
