Lagos Task Force: Suspected criminal arraigned over assault on LNSC officer, other
Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) has arraigned a suspected criminal, Chigozie Okoro, 29, over assault on an officer of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and his sibling at Fiditi Street, Ilasamaja area of Lagos.
A statement by Head of Pubic Affairs Unit of the Task Force, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, said on Thursday that the arraignment of the suspect was based on instruction of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal.
The suspect criminal, Okoro, who hailed from Imo State, had confirmed in a confessional statement to the Agency that he truly stabbed the officer, Mr. Aderemo Ramoni, and his sibling, Mr. Adeyemi Ridwan, with scissors when he was caught.
The statement by Adebayo said, “The Chairman of the Agency, Mr. Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected criminal stabbed the officer (Mr. Aderemo Ramoni) and his sibling (Mr. Adeyemi Ridwan) with scissors at different spots on thier head after he was caught to have jumped a fence into a neighbour’s compound at Fiditi Street, Ilasamaja, Lagos on 4th of October, 2017.
“SP Egbeyemi disclosed further that when the officer could not only handle the suspected criminal after he was stabbed he called his sibling who supported him and took him to the nearest Police Station.”
SP Egbeyemi noted that the synergy between the Nigerian Police and other security/enforcement officers in Lagos State on curbing criminal activities was yielding maximum cooperation across Lagos.
He therefore enjoined members of the public to always give useful information on any noticiable criminal hideouts/activities around their area “when you see something say something”.
He however confirmed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Imohimi Edgal directed that the suspected criminal be charged to court after he was briefed about the incident, quoting the Commissioner of Police to have said “An injury to any is injury to all.”
The suspect, Okoro, who confirmed having committed the offence, however pleaded for leniency and promised never to indulge in any criminal acts again if pardoned by the government.
