LAGOS: Police to arrest Okada riders, passengers as ban enforcement begins
The Lagos State Police Command has warned that both motorcyclists and passengers, who defy the new ban on Okada operations in the state, will be arrested and prosecuted.
The DEFENDER recalls that Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had recently announced a ban on Okada in six Local Government Areas of the state namely Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island and Apapa.
Sanwo-Olu said with effect from June 1, 2022, security operatives should enforce the proscription order across the affected councils.
Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin in a tweet on Saturday, had warned motorcyclists and passengers to take heed.
He said: “Under the new total ban of motorcycles in six local government areas of Lagos State, passengers and riders alike will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The passenger is an accomplice. Ignorance will not be an excuse!”
