Ladoja receives Akoko leaves ahead today’s coronation

In fulfilment of traditional core of the installation of Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan Land, the Afobaje of the ancient kingdom, Chief Waheed Popoola of the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo State, has placed the Akoko leaves on the head of the former governor of the state, with loud ovation from the large crowd in attendance.
The ceremony was held in preparation for his move to the Ose Meji House, where he will be crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan Land, shortly after leaving Labosinde Compound.
The DEFENDER reports that Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, became Olubadan designate following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on Monday July 7, 2025 after spending barely one year on the throne.
On Thursday September 25, 2025, this global online newspaper reported that Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar arrived ahead of today’s event and that he would be joined by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and several dignitaries to honour new monarch of the ancient kingdom with their presence.
