Kogi finally records Coronavirus cases as Nigeria’s infections hit 8,733

Three months after its entering into Nigeria, Coronavirus for the first time has dropped two cases in Kogi State.

The deadly disease, it will be recalled, broke out in the country through an infected Italian traveler in February this year.

Kogi and Cross Rivers State previously held the record as the only two states in Nigeria not to have recorded Coronavirus.

But on Wednesday, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported that two people have tested positive for the virus in the state.

This was as total confirmed infections in Nigeria has now hit 8,733, with highest single day cases of 389 recorded since the pandemic struck in February, according NCDC.

Total deaths from the virus is now 254.

Lagos contributed to the soaring figures recorded, as the state rakes in 256 of the cases, the highest it has recorded since the pandemic was first discovered in the state.

Katsina has 23, Rivers 22, Kano 14, Adamawa 11 and Akwa Ibom 11 cases, while Kaduna, rakes in seven cases, just as Gombe, Plateau, Abia, Delta, Niger, Kogi and Oyo recorded two cases each, while Imo, Borno, Ogun and Anambra have one case each.

Five deaths were recorded in Nigeria on Wednesday while the total number of patients discharged so far stand at 2,501.
