The DEFENDER reports that the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) will conduct elections in 44 LGAs Saturday.

In a statement by Baba Halilu Dantiye, the state Commissioner for Information, dated Octobe4 25, 2024 and obtained by The DEFENDER on Friday, the government said the restriction would be from midnight to 6pm on the day for peaceful and orderly conduct of the election.

Dantiye added that security agents have been deployed to enforce compliance.

“Only essential services personnel, including election officials, security personnel, and accredited journalists, are exempt from the restriction,” the commissioner said.

“The government urges the public to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies.

“Residents are encouraged to exercise their civic rights peacefully and avoid disrupting the election.

“Security agencies are on high alert across the 44 local government areas, with checkpoints established to monitor compliance.”

Sani Malumfashi, the Chairman of KANSIEC, pledged a transparent and credible electoral process and urged citizens to exercise their voting rights.

“We are fully prepared to conduct free, fair, and credible elections across the 44 local government areas in the state,” he said.

“The political parties participating in the council election are Action Alliance, Zenith Labour Party, and New Nigeria People’s Party, among others.”

The KANSIEC chair added that the government’s decision to restrict movement would ensure safety and prevent violence.
