Kaduna to establish disability trust fund

Arrangements have reached an advanced stage to establish a Kaduna State Disability Trust Fund,  the Director of the State Rehabilitation Board, Mrs. Felicia Kyomson has said.

She made the disclosure at the just concluded 2nd Kaduna State Women Economic Empowerment Summit. The disability trust fund she said will be set up within the third quarter of this year.

According to her, the fund when established will be used to provide a means of providing both financial and material/empowerment support to persons with disability in Kaduna State.

She further mentioned that Kaduna State government has increased capital budgetary provision to the tune of N1.259billion in 2017 to enable the repositioning of the board to deliver effective and efficient services to persons with disability.

Breaking down the figure,  she noted that there is provision for the sum of N50million for the re-designing of of Kaduna and Japan rehabilitation centres; N150million for re-equipping The State rehabilitation board;  N300million foe the rehabilitation of destitute centres and school for persons with disability;  N800m to build three additional integrated communities for persons with disabilities across the state;  N9million to conduct baseline survey to ascertain the populatiob and distribution of persons with disability in the state and N5.475million to float a special empowerment scheme for persons with disabilities that are into different entrepreneurial activities,  educational, medical and mobility support.

Earlier, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat M. Baba said the Summit is planned to explore knowledge,  information,  technology and social linkages to enable women participate as full and informed players in the business environment.
