Jubilations, celebrations in Kano over Supreme Court victory of Gov Abba Yusuf

The jubilations witnessed in Kano on Friday became the first time Nigerians in any part of the country would publicly show the level of signature to any of the election victories declared in the 2023 elections.

 

Ancient city of Kano and environs erupted in wild celebrations, on Friday, following Supreme Court judgment that finally voided all earlier judgments sacking popularly chosen Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, as the duly elected Governor of Kano State in the March 18, 2023 election in the state.

The spontaneous celebration across the city nearly marred the Juma’at prayers as residents, both young and adult, male and female took to the streets to jubilate despite security warnings.

A tour round the city and environs, according to our media source, showed Youths stunning with motorcycles, tricycles and cars while some were seen flinging away and dragging on the floor brooms which is the logo of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Hitherto, tension dropped miraculously as businesses who had suffered hiccups at the early hour of the day picked late evening.

At the market places that were initially closed in the early hours of the day, like the Rimi and Kantin Kwari markets, people have spontaneously started opening their shops and places of business

Major streets that were also deserted Friday suddenly came alive, as motorist gain confidence and were seen moving about without fear of molestation.

A huge crowd of youth suspected to be members of NNPP gathered at Miller road residence of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and other strongholds of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP across the state.

A resident of Soron Dinki in Kano metropolis, Mahdi Yusuf in an interview with INDEPENDENT expresses gratitude with the decision of the Supreme Court saying it had averted a violent reaction by the public.

“Supreme Court has saved Kano from violent reaction because, if the decision had gone not in favor of Abba, not even the security would have contained the situation.

“But with what you are seeing now, there is relief all over. People are spontaneously coming out to celebrate and tension and violence have been averted.

Meanwhile, security personnel were seen in strategic locations while commercial and other activities in the state have since bounced back.

The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usain Gumel had expressed appreciation with the public for it’s cooperation, before during and after the Supreme Court judgement. He called on the public to remain calm and law abiding as they celebrate.
