January 1, 2025 is Rajab 1, 1446AH, says Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has declared that Wednesday January 1, 2025 will be the first day of Rajab 1446AH.
This was contained in a statement by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, dated 31st December 2024 and copy sent to The DEFENDER.
“His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has declared Wednesday, 1st January 2025 as the first day of Rajab 1446AH,” the statement announced.
By this declaration, Ramadan, the ninth and most significant of 12 months of the Islamic calendar year, is 60 days from January 1, 2025 depending on when the next two crescents of Sha’ban, the eighth month, and Ramadan are respectively sighted as monitored by the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) in Nigeria and administered by the Sultan.
