Insecurity, poverty worsening in North, ACF raises alarm

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised concern over escalating insecurity, poverty and humanitarian crises in Northern Nigeria, warning that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping are displacing communities and crippling livelihoods across the region.
ACF Chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman, SAN, sounded the alarm on Wednesday at the Forum’s 79th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kaduna, stating that conditions have deteriorated since August 2025.
He cited rising attacks in Kwara, Southern Kaduna, Katsina and Benue, noting that many families have been uprooted and forced into overcrowded camps with limited access to basic services.
Osuman said repeated violence has disrupted education, farming, healthcare and economic activities, while worsening hunger and poverty. He stressed the need for urgent, coordinated action and cautioned against political distractions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ACF chairman urged members to focus on practical solutions and the welfare of the region’s most vulnerable populations.
