“Despite the fact that Governor Okowa is our brother, he has not been fair to us due to his refusal to pay us the minimum wage allowance as approved by the Federal Government.”

Concerned public primary school teachers/local government workers in Ika nation, who claimed anonymity, have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to give them a sense of belonging by paying the N30,000 minimum wage allowance which according them is long overdue, a media report says.

According to them, “Despite the fact that Governor Okowa is our brother, he has not been fair to us due to his refusal to pay us the minimum wage allowance as approved by the Federal Government.

“No explanation will justify Okowa for not paying us the minimum wage, because other State Governors who have done so are not magicians.

“Okowa’s refusal to implement the minimum wage payment better explains that he does have our interest at heart.

“Sincerely, we are not happy at all over the manner Okowa has treated us, forgetting that we also have financial responsibilities to handle”.

Further lamenting, some of the teachers stated that Okowa has relegated them to the background. They therefore appealed to His Excellency to have a change of mind and pay them their minimum wage, saying that as stated in the Bible, a labourer is entitled to his wages.
