IHERIS University Togo reacts to Nigeria’s blanket suspension, says ‘we are world class’

“As a world class University, we still maintain our position in maintaining global best practices in all our activities and we are even more committed to do more,” the Togolese University said.

 

The IHERIS University, Lome, Republic of Togo has commended the move by Nigeria to investigate standards of universities in Republic of Benin and Togo.

It said although the reason for Abuja to suspend evaluation and accreditation of degrees from universities in the two countries was  not clear, the Togolese university encouraged the approach and promised to make itself available for the planned investigation, if need be.

In a statement issued in Lome, sighed by Personal Assistant to the Registrar, Mohammed Maiyaki, dated January 2, 2024 and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Wednesday, the IHERIS University, Togo, however expressed shock at the news of the suspension.

It said “we received the news with deep shock and dismay on the temporary suspension of evaluations and accreditations from the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria on degrees from Benin Republic and Togo pending an in-depth investigation involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education of Nigeria, the two countries and the Department of State Service (DSS).

“The situation is due to a report published by an undercover investigator journalist from Nigeria, a report in which he explains how he obtained degrees certificates within 6 weeks in a private university in Cotonou Benin Republic and was mobilized for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria .

“Although the reason for suspending evaluation of universities in Togo is not clear, we at the IHERIS UNIVERSITY encourage this approach which we find noble and we make ourselves available if need be.”

Accordingto tge statement, “IHERIS University is a world class University with accreditation from the World Education Service (WES), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), European Association for quality assurance in higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Togo

“At the same time, we also ask all our students to remain calm and continue their studies while we wait for the outcome of the investigations, which we believed we would come clear.

“We the management of IHERIS UNIVERSITY want to reassure the parents and sponsors of our students that we remain committed in providing quality assurance in Education and we will not indulge our reputation for any reason.

“As a world class University, we still maintain our position in maintaining global best practices in all our activities and we are even more committed to do more,” the Togolese University said.
