Cotonou, Republic of Benin court hearing application by Nigeria’s Federal Government for extradition of Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho has adjourned till Monday 26 July 2021.
The DEFENDER reports that BBC News Yoruba’s correspondent, who was in Cotonou during the court session, said the hearing did on Friday did not start until 6pm although Igboho people had been on ground in the court since morning.
According to the BBC report, Igboho’s wife, Ropo, was let go because there were no charged pressed against him.
It will be recalled that Ropo was arrested the same day her husband was picked up by Republican Police at the Cotonou airport after the duo had boarded a Germany borne plane.
His wife has, however, been released and all her passport and other belongings have been returned to her.
In the meantime, the lawyer to Sunday Igboho in the Republic of Benin, Mr. Ibrahim David Salami, has told BBC that the country’s authorities did not catch him with Benin Passport, as against what some media reports have circulated.
He said: “It is not as if Passport of Republic of Benin was found with Chief Igboho.
“They found Passports of Nigeria and Germany with Igboho while they found that of Benin Republic on his wife.”
However, the security agency in whose custody Igboho is being detained has reportedly said that step taken to arrest him was based on order from Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
To this end, the appeal court in Cotonou has ordered that the Nigeria’s Yoruba tribalist ‘warrior’ be remanded in police custody where he is being investigated till Monday when the hearing will continue.
