The CP stressed the need for all parties to work together to preserve peace and prevent actions capable of generating unnecessary tension within their communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, has continued his familiarisation tour with a visit to the Warri Area Command, where he engaged police officers and community stakeholders on strategies for strengthening security and promoting peaceful coexistence.

As part of the visit, the Commissioner paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, Igbi II, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, to strengthen the relationship between the Police and traditional institutions in the maintenance of peace and security.

According to the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the CP, during his visit to the royal palace, acknowledged the significant role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and supporting security initiatives at the grassroots.

He emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among the Police, traditional institutions and community leaders to address security challenges and protect lives and property.

Addressing officers and stakeholders at the Warri Area Command, Erale stressed that security was a collective responsibility and should not be left to the Police and other security agencies alone.

He urged community stakeholders to embrace community policing by providing credible and timely information to the Police, assuring them that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

The Commissioner, however, cautioned against supplying false or misleading information motivated by personal grievances, rivalry or sentiments, noting that effective policing depended on genuine cooperation and reliable intelligence.

On respect for human rights, Erale emphasised that protecting citizens’ fundamental rights was a shared responsibility, warning that any police officer found violating the rights of members of the public would face appropriate disciplinary action.

He also directed officers to desist from arrest by proxy, while urging community stakeholders to promote tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

The CP stressed the need for all parties to work together to preserve peace and prevent actions capable of generating unnecessary tension within their communities.
