How El-Rufai unsettles APC with his meeting Kwankwaso days after visiting Buhari

By OUR REPORTER

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai on Thursday June 27, 2024, hosted the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The DEFENDER gathered that El-Rufai hosted Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence, a few days after visiting former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

There have been insinuations that the former governor is aligning with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

This was coming as most of the political turmoil that Nigeria has witnessed in some vital states of the country is blamed on ruling APC leadership’s too early commencement of preparation in 2023 for 2027 elections.

It will bevrecalled that El-Rufai, in March this year, visited the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in Abuja.

The former governor was on his way to securing a ministerial appointment as nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but was dropped in the dying minutes during screening.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain had criticised the current administration.

On April 15, El-Rufai claimed that the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government was spending more money on petrol subsidy than the previous governments.

According to him, “the Federal Government is now subsidising fuel; many people don’t know this.”

The recent moves on alignment and realignment among political class in Nigeria, which saw Atiku meeting immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, former Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate Peter Obi and El-Ruf meeting former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Buhari have not augored well with the ruling party, the APC.

Reacting to E-Rufai’s visit to Buhari, a former Senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, claimed it was part of plots by some prominent Northern politicians to unseat President Tinubu in the next election.

Sani had reportedly claimed some Northern politicians are plotting to use Buhari, now a more power broker across political divide in Nigeria, to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
