Govs Fubara, Eno, Adeleke, 6 others endorse sack of Wike’s Damagum, Yayari appointment as PDP Acting Chairman

By KEMI KASUMU

It has been said that the era of cut ‘n’ fan style of politics where a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor that proudly worked against his own party and, after office having been compensated with a vital ministerial appointment for doing so, continues to reign from within to final destruction of the party is gone.

This was the mood in Abuja as nine state Governors on the platform of PDP collectively sealed the fate of former Governor of Rivers State current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, with their endorsement of the sack of his “stoge”, Mr. Iliya Damagum as Acting National Chairman of the party.

The decision, said to have been taken as a major development aimed at reinforcing internal cohesion within the PDP, came following a virtual meeting held on Sunday, where the governors unanimously approved the appointment of Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed, the current PDP National Treasurer, as the new Acting National Chairman.

According to an aide to one of the governors, the move is intended to strengthen party unity and ensure strict adherence to the party’s constitution.

The governors in attendance included: Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State); Governor Douye Diri (Bayelsa State); Governor Godwin Obaseki (Edo State); Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori (Delta State); Governor Agbu Kefas (Taraba State); Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State); Governor Peter Mbah (Enugu State); Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun State) and Governor Pastor Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom State).

Key resolutions reached at the meeting were unanimous endorsement of Iliya Damagum’s suspension and approval of Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Alaghi as the new Acting National Chairman.

The governors also reaffirmed commitment to upholding the PDP’s constitution and resolving internal conflicts through formal party channels while emphasizing their dedication to the party’s progress.

“The governors reaffirm their commitment to building a stronger, more united PDP, prioritizing the party’s interests above individual agendas,” the statement read.

The suspension of Damagum is expected to take immediate effect, with continued dialogue between party stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.
