Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, in his speech on Thursday, announced that his government had set up a task force to monitor and contain Covid-19 as he admitted that the PDP rally held in the state capital Ibadan on Wednesday was error.

This is days after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a statement describing the Ibadan rally by the leading opposition party as “senseless” and show of no concern for human good.

In the address, Governor Makinde informed that a task force to be headed by himself had been set up, adding that he would address the residents of the state today to intimate them of the full measures by the state government to combat Covid-19.

While accepting the wrong timing of the unification rally of PDP held in Ibadan on Wednesday, Governor Makinde said that, “The Free Health Mission which was launched on Monday, March 16, 2020,” in the state, “will continue. The mission will be used as a vehicle for disseminating information about Coronavirus prevention and control.

“However, anyone who has shown any known symptoms of COVID-19 such as dry cough, fever, nausea, severe headaches, difficulty breathing and tiredness should please, isolate themselves and call the following Oyo State Ministry of Health helplines: ‪08038210122, ‪08023229267 or ‪08073431342.”

In the meantime, Governor Makinde appealed to the residents of the state to adhere to the preventive and precautionary measures that had been publicised locally and internationally by public health workers and professionals to clamp down on Coronavirus.
