GOVERNANCE IN KANO: Gov Yusuf assures completion of 5km road each abandoned projects across 44 LGAs

The Kano State government has concluded arrangement to complete 5 kilometers rural road project each and commission same across the 44 local government areas of the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the assurance Wednesday after a reconciliation meeting with contractors handing the capital projects, at the Government House.

The multi-million naira 5 kilometers rural urban road projects, which were awarded by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso during his administration had suffered total neglect by immediate past administration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

In a statement dated July 3, 2024 sent to The DEFENDER on Wednesday the Governor’s Spokesman, Mallam Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, it was said that Ganduje’s failure to complete his predecessor’s developmental and public oriented projects had left the direct beneficiaries in excruciating pain, having left the project in bad sharp throughout the eight years of his administration.

While meeting with the contractors, Governor Yusuf commended them for their timely response, assured his administration’s resolve to sustain Dr. Kwankwaso’s rational behind road infrastructure.

Critical among mutual agreements reached after the meeting include immediate mobilization of the handlers back to sites in the next one week to complete the project.

Other resolutions concluded between the two parties are, the urgent directive issued to state Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to sort out issues of pending compensation problem.

“It was resolved that contractors would meet with their respective banks to access 30 per cent advance payment released to the contracts but failed to access it.

“It was further resolved a result of recorded escalation in the prices of construction materials, that government has accepted to review the cost of the remaining items of works based moderate upward reviewed rates.

“It was also agreed that government would fashion out a planned strategic payments to contracts on monthly basis such that no payment is stagnated. The resolution had that contractors that accepted the new offer should mobilize to their respective sites within one week otherwise forfeit the opportunity”.
