Lagos — The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The authority disclosed the incident in a statement posted Monday on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the fire and ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel.
According to FAAN, its firefighting unit is actively working to extinguish the blaze, while coordinated evacuation procedures are underway to move passengers and staff to safe areas. The agency added that no loss of life has been recorded.
Emergency operations remain ongoing, with efforts focused on fully containing the fire and preventing further damage.
To reinforce its response, FAAN said it activated mutual aid arrangements and sought support from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and other relevant emergency agencies.
The authority reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property and pledged to provide further updates as the situation develops.
