EXCLUSIVE: Sanusi II’s reinstatement as Emir of Kano automatic- Official

By BASHIR ADEFAKA

The Thursday’s legislative dissolution of four “politically multivated” Emirates, created by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje during his days as Governor of Kano State, gives His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II automatic reinstatement as Emir of Kano.

This was confirmed to The DEFENDER by a senior official, who said Sanusi’s glorious return to the Martaba – Emir’s Palace – in the Kano City was only a matter of hours as he will be reinstated as soon as Mr. Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, signs the Bill dissolving the four Emirates into law.

“I must tell you that the issue of reinstatement does not even arise because there was no removal in the first place. What happened was merely the use of politics to bend the way of the law in circumstances they tried to infect the respected and highly influential ancient Kano State traditional institution with their self-service. Now, the wrong has been corrected,” said the official.

Asked if the Governor had signed the Bill into law, he said, “Certainly Mr. Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, will ascent to the Bill only that, I cannot say whether today or tomorrow. So, it is a matter of hours that Emir Sanusi II returns to his revered throne,” the official told our reporter via a voice call Thursday afternoon.

This globalised multi-lingual online newspaper had reported earlier that Kano State House of Assembly passed a Bill, which repeals the four Emirates created by former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

This happened as it was learnt that the state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, would sign the Bill into law any moment from the time of the passage.

According to reports on Thursday May 22, 2024, the Assembly also repealed the Emirates Law during its plenary session amidst tight security.

It is understood that the legislative arm is now expected to submit the decision to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for assent.

Our source said by implication, the repeal if the Emirates Law by the Assembly, automatically paves the way for the return of deposed 14th Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Already, the current Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayeo, and his Bichi counterpart, Nasiru Ado Bayero, have travelled out of the state.

Recall that Alhaji Sanusi II was dethroned in March 2020 by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, following a protracted political dispute.

Mr Ganduje had then, ahead of Sanusi’s deposition, created the four new Emirates to reduce the influence of the once powerful Kano Emirate and then announced his sack later.
