Ex-Gov Tambuwal mourns Sokoto monarch killed by bandits

By BASHIR ADEFAKA

Former Governor of Sokoto State and sitting Senator representing Sokoto South at the National Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Matawallen Sokoto, has expressed sorrow over the wicked and dehumanising manner in which the District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government of Sokoto State, His Royal Highness Alhaji Isah Bawa, was killed while being held captive by bandits.

The DEFENDER reports that Sarki Bawa was kidnapped by bandits while returning home after attending a meeting in Sokoto City on July 27, 2024.  In a video circulated by his abductors earlier in the week, the Sarki was seen surrounded by AK 47 carrying criminals gang members as he was pleading (in Hausa) with Sokoto State Government to “please” pay the ransom demanded by the bandits.

According to him, the abductors had said they would kill him if the deadline for meeting their demands was reached unmet. Sadly on Tuesday August 20, 2024 the Sarkin Gatawa was short dead and, according to reports, his remains were not released to his family as the bandits said he had been buried in the forest.

In a condolence message posted on his X handle, former Sokoto State Aminu Waziri Tambuwal described the tragic loss of the monarch into the cold hand of death through the unfortunate circumstances as sorrowful.

“INNALILLAAHI WA INNA ILAIHIR RAJI’UN

“With profound sorrow and a heavy heart, I mourn the tragic loss of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Isah Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government. His life was cruelly taken by his abductors, leaving an immeasurable void in our communities.

“This barbaric act is a stark reminder of the challenges we face as a nation. I condemn it in the strongest terms and urge the authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Our nation’s security situation demands urgent attention. I call upon our security agencies to intensify their efforts to apprehend those who threaten our peace and stability.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, Sultanate Council of Sokoto, and the people of Gatawa and Sabon Birni Local Government Area during this difficult time. May the soul of His Royal Highness find eternal peace, and may his legacy of selfless service continue to inspire us all.

“Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR.”
