An ex-convict Kingsley Chukwu, male, has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Wednesday that the suspect who was arrested on Monday 29th October 2018 at about 10:00pm in Onipanu area of Ota of the state, was only released from prison few days to the day of his new crime.
His arrest, according to DSP Oyeyemi, followed a distress call received by Police at Onipanu Division that an Okada rider was attacked at Divine Wisdom community in Iyesi area and that his bike was snatched and taken away.
“Consequently, the DPO Onipanu Division, SP Sangobiyi Johnson, quickly led his anti-robbery team to the scene, combed the entire area with the assistance of the CDA members and subsequently apprehended the suspect while his accomplice escaped. Further search led to the recovery of the snatched Honda motorcycle.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and his fleeing accomplice pretended as passengers when they stopped the Okada man, and that they hit him on the head with a sharp object which made him to be unconscious before they dispossessed him of the motorcycle.
“He further disclosed that he has been convicted for similar offence and just came out of prison.
“The victim, Umaru Hassan, has been taken to the hospital where he is responding to treatment,” the Police said in the statement.
In the meantime, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a “serious manhunt” for the escaped accomplice.
The State Command boss equally directed that the arrested suspect be transferred to FSARS for discreet investigation.
