El-Rufai speaks on why Kaduna is selling off 1,500 govt quarters
Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-rufai has opened up that the State Government decided to sell off 1,990 residential quarters it tagged as ‘non-essential’ because the previous government gets only N1million as rent from residential quarters annually.
It would be recalled that the state government had advertised an invitation to bid and approved guidelines for the public auction of state government residential quarters to public servants and the general public.
The move to sell off 1,990 government houses according to reports was to cut the cost of maintaining the quarters as endorsed by the State Executive Council.
El-Rufai who spoke through the Commissioner for works, housing and transport, Hassan M. Usman at the annual ministerial press briefing which held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents Chapel, complained that civil servants were not paying for the houses as expected.
According to him, most civil servants pay as low as N690 per annum as rent for their houses, which he said does not conform with what the state government spends on maintaining the quarters.
