EFCC files corruption charges against judges recalled by NJC

It said the government failed to file charges against five of the judges months after their arrest and suspension; hence its decision to recall them.

The government had criticised the decision, vowing to take action against the judges.

On Thursday, the EFCC filed 14-count charges of unlawful enrichment against Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, a judge in the Federal High Court, Lagos.

In the charge sheet, The DEFENDER gathered, the anti-graft agency alleged that the judge had a significant increase in his assets that he could not reasonably explain in relation to his lawful income.

Also, the EFCC filed four-count charges of corruption and attempting to pervert the course of justice against Mohammed Yunusa, a judge also in the Federal High Court, Lagos.

All the charges were filed at the Lagos State High Court.

Adeniyi Ademola, one of the judges prosecuted by the Federal Government, was discharged and acquitted of all charges against him by an Abuja High Court. But the government said it would appeal against the judgment of the court.

Ademola resumed duties on Wednesday.
