EFCC arrests David Mark, releases him on bail
Mallam Ibrahim Mustapha Magu remains unwavering despite three deadly attempts at his life by unknown gunmen, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) he heads and for which reason the attempts at his life through series of attacks, on Thursday, intensifies effort on his anti-corruption fight against high profile cases with reported arrest of former President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator David Mark, to answer questions over some financial issues involving him.
The DEFENDER, whose source quoted EFCC’s source, however gathered that the former Military Governor of Niger State was later released on bail by the anti-graft agency after some hours to his arrest.
“We invited the ex-Senate President for interaction on some financial issues and he came to clarify certain aspects relating to him.
“He spent a few hours with us, made a statement and he was granted an administrative bail,” a top EFCC source was quoted to have said.
Asked of the status of Mark, the source added: “It is too early to release the details but we did not detain him.
“As soon as we get to a convenient bend, we will tell Nigerians why we quizzed Mark.
“He was implicated in some transactions and we decided to hear from him. This does not mean that he is guilty of any infractions at this stage.
”I think it is obvious that our detectives will still interrogate him again in the next few days or weeks.”
It would be recall that President Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof. Ishaq Akintola, had warned that nothing should happen to Magu as he blamed the serial attempts at his life by some unknown gunmen on high profiles cases the anti-corruption czar is prosecuting over their connection with corruption.
