The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria stands resolutely with His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III. We will not be silent on any attempt to denigrate or destabilize this esteemed office. We appeal for wisdom, restraint, and respect for the institutions that are central to the unity and stability of our nation.

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, B-Zone (South Nigeria) with headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State, South West Nigeria, has joined tge mounting of pressure on Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, as well as the State House of Assembly, to drop his plans to whittle the powers of Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, with a view to deposing him.

In a statement jointly signed by its Zonal President, Dr. Moshood Kolawole, Zonal General Secretary, Mallam AbdulWakil Omotayo Akanni, and Zonal Public Relations Officer, Mallam Moshood Tahiru, circulated to the media at the weekend, tge MSSN Southern Nigeria zone rose to be counted among the nationwide resistance against Governor Aliyu’s insistence on his politically motivated disrespect for the very important personality and throne of the Sultan of Sokoto His state is only privilege to host.

It said it “is gravely concerned about the reported plans by the Sokoto State House of Assembly to pass a bill that will weaken the strength of the office of His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III. We strongly urge those involved in this scheme to tread with caution and consider the broader implications of their actions.”

The MSSN B-Zone (Southern Nigeria) let the Sokoto governor know what he probably knew but decided to ignore or did not know but needed to know about the place and importance of the Sultan, the leader of over 150 million Nigerian Muslims he is only opportune to have seated in Sokoto State and why he should treasure and not disrespect him.
“The office of the Sultan of Sokoto is not merely a regional position but a revered institution that holds significant religious, cultural, and historical importance for Muslims across Nigeria. The Sultan serves as the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, and any attempt to undermine this office is perceived as an assault on the entire Muslim community of Nigeria.

“As the chairman of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has consistently been a beacon of unity, peace, and moral guidance. His leadership transcends regional boundaries, offering a voice of reason and moderation in times of national discourse. An attempt to remove him from this esteemed position is to risk destabilizing the harmony and solidarity among Nigerian Muslims.

“We, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, B-Zone, hereby call on the Sokoto State Government to reconsider any actions that would threaten the sanctity and respect of the Sultanate. We remind all parties that the Sultanate is a unifying symbol for Muslims nationwide and its integrity must be preserved.
“Furthermore, we call on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, GCFR, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene in this matter. The federal government has a responsibility to ensure that the religious and cultural institutions that bind our nation together are protected from undue political interference and manipulation.
“The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria stands resolutely with His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III. We will not be silent on any attempt to denigrate or destabilize this esteemed office. We appeal for wisdom, restraint, and respect for the institutions that are central to the unity and stability of our nation.
“In conclusion, we urge all stakeholders to prioritize the greater good of the Nigerian Muslim community and the nation as a whole. The repercussions of undermining the Sultanate of Sokoto could be far-reaching and detrimental to the peace and cohesion we all strive to maintain.
“May Allah guide us all towards actions that foster unity, peace, and justice.”
