*Indicate readiness to work together, as moves to resolve Obaship tussles begin

The meeting of Akure South Local Government Traditional Rulers Council flagged off for the 2023 calendar year, on Thursday January 25.

This time, the meeting is more robust as the local government monarchs council now has more members with the recent presentations of Staff of Office and Instruments of Appointments to Osolo of Isolo Land, Oba Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole Osalade II, the Iralepo of Isinkan Land, and three others to now make it a nine-member body.

Presided over by its Chairman, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, who is also the Deji of Akure Kingdom, the meeting had its major agenda for discussion centred around resolving lingering chieftaincy tussles.

It will be recalled that the Deji of Akure is currently in court against the state governor and sole officer with powers to decide who becomes an Oba, who becomes not and who gets dethroned in the state, seeking to have some Obas recently installed by the Governor derecognised.

The DEFENDER reports that with Thursday’s meeting of all the Obas, the Deji would now allow the effort of the state government in ensuring Chieftaincy peace in Akure South Local Government like in others to finally come to fruition, especially as all the Akure South Obas accept to work together with him for the peace of their respective kingdoms, the state and Nigeria.

Details of the meeting’s deliberations were not available as at the time of filing this report. It was, however, gathered that it felt more gratifying for the Deji as he expressed joy at increased number of members on the Akure South Traditional Rulers Council that he heads, which has now resolved to meet again at a later date to continue its deliberations.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant to the Osolo of Isolo, Comrade Ayomide Michael, and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Sunday January 29, 2023, the amiable Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Pastor Gbenga Olaniyi, later joined the monarchs after their deliberations for group photographs.

“The meeting took place at the Akure South Local Government Secretariat in Akure. The Akure South Local Government Executive Chairman later joined the monarchs for group photographs,” the statement said.

In attendance were the nine traditional rulers that make up the Akure South Local Government Traditional Rulers Council. The include the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi; the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole Osalade II, the Iralepo of Isinkan, Oba Oluwagbemiga Olofin-Adimula; the Akapinsa of Ipinsa, Oba Omoniyi Olufunmilayo Ayayi Roboto I; and five others – the Olojoda of Oda, Elekun of Ilekun, Ado of Adofure, Olujigba of Ijigba and Olujoka of Ijoka.
