Court orders destruction of 14 containers of Tramadol

Justice Saliu Saidu of a Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday ordered the destruction of 14 containers of tramadol confiscated at Apapa Wharf, Lagos, by men of the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS). The order was sequel to the granting of an ex-parte motion filed by the NCS through its lawyer, Ogunlowo Bisi, seeking an order condemning the banned drug.

In his submissions before the court, the lawyer said the motion was brought pursuant to Order 26, Rule 8(1) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, provision of Sections 167 and 169(1) and Schedule 3 of the Nigeria Customs Services Management Act Cap. C.45, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. He sought a court’s order authorising the condemnation of the seized drug as being forfeited to the Federal Government.
