Corruption trials must conclude promptly once commenced, V’President Osinbajo declares

“How we communicate what is going on regarding corruption is important. There are still those who think a politician who steals is some kind of Robin Hood, instead of being vilified. Some people believe that if ‘my kinsman steals, it is ok’  It is important to completely de-legitimise corruption, especially through the way it is communicated,” Osinbajo stated.

The Presidency has declared that it is important that “corruption trials, once commenced, should be concluded promptly.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo declared this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday while meeting with the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) chaired by Professor Itse Sagay.

The vice president, who expressed satisfaction with the anti-corruption war, urged anti-graft agencies to step up their engagement with the public.

“It is important to completely de-legitimise corruption, especially through the way it is communicated,” Osinbajo stated.

The vice president affirmed that the PACAC had given credibility to the anti-corruption war.

In his remarks, Sagay called for an harmonized national anti-corruption strategy for the Federal Government.
He said the committee had engaged with all anti-corruption agencies as well as the police and the judiciary.
