CONDOLENCE: Sultan’s delegation visits late Jekadan Sokoto, Kogi’s ex-Gov Ibrahim Idris family in Abuja

Led by the Magajin Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmad Bello, the delegation included the Sa’in Kilgori, Dr. Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori; Sarkin Fadan Sokoto, Alhaji Kabiru Tafida; Sarkin Mallamman Sokoto, Malam Yahya; and Mukaddamin Khadiriya, Malam Abdulkadir.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, sent a high-powered delegation to condole with family of the late Jekadan Sokoto and former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.

The delegation visited the deceased’s residence in Asokoro, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to convey the Sultan’s condolences to the family.

Led by the Magajin Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmad Bello, the delegation included the Sa’in Kilgori, Dr. Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori; Sarkin Fadan Sokoto, Alhaji Kabiru Tafida; Sarkin Mallamman Sokoto, Malam Yahya; and Mukaddamin Khadiriya, Malam Abdulkadir.

During the visit, prayers were offered with the delegation asking Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him mercy and repose his soul in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

Members of the late Ibrahim Idris’ family expressed appreciation to the Sultan for his condolences and for sending the delegation to commiserate with them in the difficult time.

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who was a former Governor of Kogi State, was also known as Jekadan Sokoto, a title reflecting his close relationship with the Sokoto Sultanate.

Earlier, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, in a deeply reflective conversation with his Media Team on Monday, September 21, 2026, had spoken with profound grief about the passing of the former governor, recalling not only his service as a respected titleholder of the Sultanate but also the remarkable bond he shared with Sokoto, a city he regarded as home and where he built the foundation of his economic and public life.

The DEFENDER reports that Alhaji Ibrahim Idris returned to his Creator on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 77.
