Car stolen in Germany, intercepted in Nigeria: An update, by Maritime Police Command
The Maritime Police Command (MPC), in the course of its constitutional duties, is now set to move a car it intercepted February 2017 to the Interpol, The DEFENDER can authoritatively report.
Our investigations revealed that information leading to the discovery of the stolen vehicle, which is a Golf 7 series car of 2015 model, came through deeper look into statements obtained during earlier interrogation of suspects for separate maritime crimes and which had since been charged to court.
According to our checks, the car has its details as: Chasis No. WVNZZZAUZFP587391; Model: 2015; Colour Code: Grey; Make: VW. Date believed to have been stolen: 24/09/2016; Country of theft: Germany; and Country of recovery: Nigeria.
Due to constraints by court injunctions, the police could not conclude issues surrounding the stolen vehicle until June 2018 when another judge though in same court of jurisdiction ordered the vehicle be returned to the Maritime Police Command for onward movement to the Interpol for further investigation.
The court may have acted on the provisions of the law which implies that such cases like of stolen vehicles from other countries or cases across international borders fall under the jurisdiction of the Interpol section which is currently located at Force C.I.D. Alagbon Close in Lagos.
“After exchange of correspondences between the MPC and Interpol, which takes charge of issues connecting two countries or more, the Maritime Police Command is now set to move the Golf 7 car said to be valued at N7 million to Interpol, which, according to the law of establishment, has the powers to invite the suspect, Obi Uchenna Emmanuel, male, who had since been granted bail by court and enjoyed immunity from police arrest based on the separate case charged to court by MPC, details of which cannot be produced in this report,” an MPC source
told our investigation team.
